Green Dream Organization Conducts Safety Audit in Goz Al Salam Camp to Strengthen Protection and Community Safety

Green Dream Organization (GDO), in partnership with Medical Teams International (MTI) and in coordination with the Combatting Violence Against Women Unit (CVAW), conducted a Safety Audit in Goz Al Salam Camp from 2 to 4 June 2026. The activity was implemented as part of ongoing efforts to enhance protection, improve community safety, and identify risks affecting displaced populations and the host community.

The Safety Audit included 27 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with different community groups, structured surveys with block leaders, and comprehensive field safety observations covering all sections of the camp. A detailed camp map was also developed, identifying public facilities, main roads, and commonly used pathways. To ensure comprehensive coverage, the camp was divided into nine residential blocks, and the host community was included within the scope of the assessment.

The findings revealed that camp residents originate from several conflict-affected areas, including Jabal Al Dair, Heglig, Kartala, Kadugli, Al Dilling, and Al Fasher, reflecting the diverse geographical backgrounds and experiences of the displaced families residing in the camp.

The assessment covered a wide range of sectors, including camp planning and community safety, shelter and housing conditions, water points, sanitation and hygiene facilities, aid distribution activities, health services, community services, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). Particular attention was given to identifying safety concerns, accessibility barriers, and challenges faced by vulnerable groups.

The Safety Audit further examined risks related to gender-based violence (GBV), community protection and safety, mental health and psychosocial well-being, and access to essential services. The findings provide valuable evidence to support future humanitarian programming, strengthen protection interventions, and improve the overall safety and well-being of affected populations.

Support M/FSGs

Since 01 June 2025, Mother Support Groups were established in Al-Salam and Al-Jabalain localities. A total of 32 mother leaders were selected and trained by the Ministry of Health on key nutrition topics. Work tools were distributed to facilitate the implementation of their activities. The planned target for this output was fully achieved, and all activities for this phase were successfully completed.

During the second quarter, monitoring and evaluation visits were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the interventions and ensure proper delivery of nutrition messages. The mother leaders demonstrated good understanding of the key messages and showed active participation during follow-up activities.

Facilitation for support groups to establish kitchen demonstration gardens
During the first round of the project, 32 mothers participated in practical, field-based training on vegetable cultivation. Gardening materials—including seeds, watering cans, shovels, and hoes—were distributed to support the establishment of home gardens.

Following the completion of the first round, the mothers successfully planted, harvested, and consumed vegetables grown in their home gardens. In the second round, seeds were redistributed to all targeted mothers to ensure continuity and sustainability of home gardening activities in Al-Salam and Al-Jabalain localities.

Bi-monthly food and cooking demonstration sessions with support groups in the localities and health facilities

Educational meal (cooking demonstration) activities were implemented in selected areas of Al-Salam and Al-Jabalain localities. The interventions targeted children enrolled in the nutrition program at the nutrition centers, as well as their mothers who are members of the Mother Support Groups (MSGs).

The objective of the cooking demonstrations was to strengthen mothers’ skills in preparing nutritious and affordable meals using locally available ingredients, promoting healthy household feeding practices. The meals were prepared using simple, locally sourced ingredients with high nutritional value, enabling easy replication at home.

During the first round, access constraints caused by the rainy season limited coverage in some target areas. In the second round, full access was secured, and all planned and previously postponed activities were successfully completed.

Mother Support Groups

Green Dream Organization (GDO), in partnership with Medical Team International and the Ministry of Health, continues to drive the Nutrition Enhancement and Women Empowerment Project across Al Salam and Al Jabalain Localities.

Our gallery captures the project in action:

1. Mother-to-Mother Exchange: Through focused Mothers Group Sessions, women exchange vital expertise on cooking techniques, meal quality, and dietary diversity, aiming to drastically improve their children’s nutritional status.

2. Practical Learning: Hands-on Demonstration Cooking Sessions ensure mothers gain practical skills in preparing and testing nutritious meals.

3. Food Sustainability: To foster sustainable food security, mothers also received improved vegetable seeds, empowering them to farm, harvest, and cook fresh, healthy produce right from their homes.

Green Dream Organization (GDO), with funding from Medical Team International (MTI)

GDO with funding from Medical Team International (MTI) in White Nile state and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has successfully implemented Nutrition intervention in Al-Janalin & Al-Salam localities targeting mother groups aimed at tackling undernutrition and enhancing resilience

We delivered hands-on training to mothers' groups, practically demonstrating how to prepare qualitative, highly nutritious meals for children under five. This focused training is essential for equipping families with the knowledge needed to reduce child undernutrition at the household level, through comprehensive community consultation and involvement, we supported small-scale farming initiatives. This focused on increasing access to locally available, protein-rich food grains, including peas, chickpeas, and lentils
